Calling All Chefs and Bartenders: Upcoming ORA Competitions Offer Big Prizes!

The Oklahoma Restaurant Association is making preparations for two popular competitions to be held during the 2018 Oklahoma Restaurant Convention & Expo on September 26 and 27. The official applications are online and fill up quickly, so be sure to apply before we're full!

The ORA Culinary Cook-off is a cooking competition in which 12 of the most talented chefs in Oklahoma will race the clock to create dazzling dishes using a mystery basket of ingredients. Chefs will compete in various heats until the contest is narrowed down to the last two chefs. Competitors are taken on a first-come first-serve basis, and space is limited.

The ORA Cocktail Shakedown involves bartenders putting their skills and abilities to the test as they compete to move through timed heats of cocktail preparations. As each competitor lifts a shaker and creates his or her requisite signature concoction, they race the clock to create innovative and delicious cocktails that will be judged on taste and balance, originality, drink presentation, and stage presentation.

If you are interested in competing in either competition, or know of someone who is, please apply!

***Those interested in sponsoring either event can now do so online, via the ORA Culinary Cook-off or the ORA Cocktail Shakedown partnership links.

What's Happening
Members of the ORA will come together for Hospitality Day at the Capitol, where we will spend time speaking to legislators about issues facing our industry, and then culminate in a fabulous reception with more than 600 members and legislators at the Chevy Bricktown Events Center.
The ORA is pleased to present its 2019-2020 scholarship application. Scholarships are open to OSU HTM and OSUIT students. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2019.
The goal of ORA Academy is to offer continuing education and professional development to particular demographics of ORA’s membership, specifically Management/Front-of-the-House training and Culinary/Back-of-the-House education. With the exception of the April Academy, all Management sessions will be from 9-11 am and Culinary sessions will be from 1-3 pm, and each session will be $25.
Beginning October 1, first-time applicants applying for an alcohol server license will be required to attend a mandatory ABLE approved training course to receive their license. ServSafe Alcohol, a partnership between the Oklahoma Restaurant Association and the National Restaurant Association, is an on-line training course now approved to meet this new mandate. Receive a 33% discount with code OKALCOHOL.
